A Scandinavian design studio with A
French-Canadian accent
UNIT 10 was founded in 1999 by Anne Marie Raaschou-Nielsen (b. Denmark) and Francis Cayouette (b. Canada) and is located in central Copenhagen, where the duo's interests for functional and humanistic design takes shape in the form of products, furniture, concepts and spatial environments.
Good design is functional, but it is also statements and emotions. An object is somehow uninteresting unless it can awake an emotion with its user, and it should be a carrier of meaning and quality. These values Francis Cayouette and Anne Marie Raaschou-Nielsen invite in all parts of the design process: From initial sketch to concept ideation through final execution.
The duo's long-standing collaboration has its own special DNA, where sparring and dynamic dialog contributes to the creative process and always follows the synergy between the individual competences of the two designers.
UNIT 10's distinction is their great insight into how businesses think and work. An insight that also comes from Anne Marie's 11 years working as a brand and creative manager for Stelton and Normann Copenhagen. The studio’s long experience in capturing customer’s needs as well as challenging the norms, makes their design proposals thoughtful, technically well-founded and always standing on a solid base of understanding for the brand universe’s mood and tone.
UNIT 10 has designed a wide range of Scandinavian products, which speaks both to the senses and their functionality. And this combination, performed with their long experience, knowledge and vision for the businesses and their production capabilities, has resulted in long lasting collaborations with meaningful brands like IKEA of Sweden, Stelton, Normann Copenhagen and FDB moebler.
